6

Chemical Changes

The Chemical Changes Gizmo allows students to see how chemical changes result in the formation of new substances. They get to explore how these changes occured by observing and measuring a variety of chemical reactions.

10

Density Laboratory

With the Density Laboratory Gizmo students will use a scale to measure mass, a graduated cylinder to measure volume, and a large beaker of liquid to observe flotation, the relationship between mass, volume, density, and flotation can be investigated.

9

Water Cycle

The Water Cycle Gizmo allows students to Control the path of a drop of water as it travels through the water cycle. They can determine how the water moves from one location to another, and learn how water resources are distributed in these locations.

8

Element Builder

With the Element Builder Gizmo students get to use protons, neutrons, and electrons to build elements. As the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons changes, various information is displayed. Each element is classified as a metal, metalloid, or nonmetal.

7

Photosynthesis Lab

The Photosynthesis Lab Gizmo allows students to study photosynthesis in a variety of conditions -- light intensity, carbon dioxide levels, temperature, and wavelength of light. They can determine which conditions are ideal for photosynthesis, with this Gizmo.

5

Cell Types

With the Cell Types Gizmo students get to explore a wide variety of cells, from bacteria to human neurons, using a compound light microscope. They can compare the structures found in different cells, then perform tests to see if the sample is alive.

4

Growing Plants

With the Growing Plants Gizmo students can investigate the growth of three common garden plants: tomatoes, beans, and turnips. They can change the amount of light, water, and the type of soil the plants get to determine what conditions produce the tallest and healthiest plants.

3

Food Chain

The Food Chain Gizmo allows students get to study the population of each species an ecosystem consisting of hawks, snakes, rabbits and grass. They can introduce disease for any species, and the number of animals can be increased or decreased at any time, just like in the real world.
