Margarita Martínez Figueroa is a former environmental engineer. Environmental engineers use their knowledge of engineering, water, soil and air science, chemistry, and biology to protect and improve the environment—for example, pollution control and recycling. During her time as an environmental engineer, Margarita helped coordinate the design, construction, and implementation of a wastewater treatment plant.
Use STEM Skills like Margarita Martínez Figueroa
As a former environmental engineer, Margarita worked to maintain, protect, and restore our natural resources, like water. Help students learn about the types of water pollution and where they come from with the Gizmos Water Pollution simulation*.

Sherri Carter is a chemical engineer. Chemical engineers use math and science, like chemistry and physics, to solve problems. Chemical engineers can work in various industries, such as electronics and manufacturing. Currently, Sherri is an Associate Director of Operations for AbbVie, a pharmaceutical company. In this role, Sherri works with her team to develop a product for infants.

Grant Davis works in the field of Civil Engineering. Civil Engineers use math and science to create environments that help people where they live and work. This career includes many specialties, including architectural, construction, structural, and geomatics engineering. As a researcher, Grant performs hands-on testing to gather data, including building, breaking, testing, and repeating for more information. That pushes the boundaries of what is known in a start-to-finish process.
Use STEM Skills like Grant Davis
Civil engineers, like Grant, work to make the world safe, practical, and efficient. They look at a wide range of issues, such as how to design a flight of stairs to how we get our drinking water. Your students can explore the role of a civil engineer to investigate how a water treatment plant has failed to eliminate all the contaminants in the water and design a new method through the Water Contamination STEM Case.
