Ahmed Ali is a former analytical chemist. Analytical chemists conduct controlled experiments to explore the chemical component of substances. In his career as an analytical chemist, Ahmed had the opportunity to work as an emergency response chemist for the CDC studying toxic substances. Ahmed also worked as a synthetic chemist creating molecules that could detect cancer.
Use STEM Skills like Ahmed Ali
In one of Ahmed's earliest professional jobs, he worked to discover what dangerous chemicals someone might have been exposed to and how to help them overcome the effects. In the Gizmos Cell Respiration STEM Case*, your students will do just that.

Gregory Bigford uses his knowledge of science and medicine to work both as a clinical rehabilitation specialist and a laboratory science investigator. As a clinical rehabilitation specialist, Gregory works with patients who have spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries, providing an exercise and nutritional educational program. In his position as a laboratory science investigator, Gregory performs experiments to better understand diseases and tests novel approaches to treating diseases.
Use STEM Skills like Gregory Bigford
Gregory works to understand and help heal the human body. Have students explore the effects of exercising, sweating, shivering, and clothing on body temperature, and identify the consequences of allowing body temperature to get too high or too low with the Gizmos Human Homeostasis simulation*.

As a broadcast meteorologist, Mary Wasson brings her knowledge of weather to the television screen. She uses tools like barometers, maps, radar, and satellites to study patterns and forecast the weather. Mary also works in graphic design to display weather information for her broadcasts. Because the weather constantly changes, meteorologists like Mary must be ready to work any day of the week, including holidays.
*Suggested simulations are available when you sign up for a Gizmos 30-day free trial or when you log in to your paid account.
Use STEM Skills like Mary Wasson
Mary forecasts daily weather conditions by observing data. Find out the origin of land breezes and sea breezes with our Coastal Winds and Clouds Gizmo.
Guillermo Dominguez is a pilot for Envoy Airlines, which is a part of American Airlines. Pilots study aviation science and undergo training to learn how to operate an aircraft such as an airplane or a helicopter. Guillermo flies a commercial airplane and uses his knowledge and skills in aviation to perform preflight inspections and to safely transport passengers to their destinations.
Use STEM Skills like Guillermo Dominguez
As a pilot, Guillermo needs to be aware of current and future weather conditions before taking flight. Have your students explore weather conditions with the Gizmos Weather Maps - Metric simulation*.

Michelle Huepenbecker is a registered dietitian for The Emily Project, which offers in-person and telehealth treatments for individuals with eating disorders. In her role, Michelle helps people overcome their eating disorder and find food freedom. Michelle provides her clients with counseling, as well as education about food and nutrition.
Use STEM Skills like Michelle Huepenbecker
Michelle teaches her clients about food’s macro and micronutrients. Have students test food samples to determine if the food is a carbohydrate, protein, or lipid with the Identifying Nutrients Gizmos simulation*.

Kiran Campbell is a registered dietitian nutritionist at a hospital. In this role, Kiran assesses a patient’s nutritional needs, helps come up with individualized nutrition plan, and addresses patient’s medical concerns and nutritional deficiencies. Kiran monitors her patients to provide the best quality care possible.
*Suggested simulations are available when you sign up for a Gizmos 30-day free trial or when you log in to your paid account.
Use STEM Skills like Kiran Campbell
Kiran helps patients by developing a nutritional plan. Teach students how the body absorbs nutrients when food is broken down with the Digestive System Gizmos simulation*.
Bryan Lewis is both a computational epidemiologist and research associate professor at the University of Virginia. As a computational epidemiologist, Bryan conducts research on the spread of infectious diseases — like COVID-19 and Ebola — through computational methods. Bryan’s job requires the use of science, math, and technology skills. His research helps inform policies and supports real-time epidemic response.
*Suggested simulations are available when you sign up for a Gizmos 30-day free trial or when you log in to your paid account.
Use STEM Skills like Bryan Lewis
Bryan's job entails researching infectious diseases, how they spread, and how to help curb that spread. Help students learn how diseases spread with Gizmos Disease Spread simulation*.
Lilian Wang is a biotechnology scientist focused on developing cancer treatments using cell therapy. She develops assays (investigative laboratory tests) to determine the quality and safety of cancer drug products. Lilian modifies white blood cells from healthy donors to target and treat cancer cells. Most of Lilian’s research occurs in the laboratory, where she conducts experiments to detect antibodies and levels of proteins.
*Suggested simulations are available when you sign up for a Gizmos 30-day free trial or when you log in to your paid account.
Use STEM Skills like Lilian Wang
Lilian works to create treatments for diseases using cell therapy. Help your students explore the building blocks of cells with the Gizmos Cell Structure simulation. Students can collect and view cell samples from animals, plants, or bacteria under a microscope and discover the structure and function of organelles.
Growing up in Alaska, Karen Stafford-Brown spent much time outdoors and especially loved being near water. As an Environmental Engineer, Karen takes that love of water a step further. She works with clients to determine their needs and creates projects with technical design engineers and construction contractors. She has worked with all types of water infrastructure, such as water reservoirs, dams, and water treatment facilities. She has worked in the public and private sectors for over 26 years.
*Suggested simulations are available when you sign up for a Gizmos 30-day free trial or when you log in to your paid account.
Use STEM Skills like Karen Stafford-Brown
Karen works to clean the environment, including air, land, and water. In the Water Cycle Gizmo, your students can learn more about how water moves from one location to another and how water resources are distributed in these locations.
